Chats with Heidi & a Wedding Photographer

I don't know about you, but I am finding myself asking the same questions over and over to different professionals. With wedding planning in full swing, and emails piling up, I thought it would be fun to bring you the pros for their insight on what we (the brides) are always asking.

For ONBB - Old. New. Borrowed. Blue. Wedding's first interview, I sat down with Jasmine Norris with Jasmine Norris Photography to help give us a little more insight into wedding photography.

1. What are the top three questions you are asked as a wedding photographer?

"Am I doing this right? This is probably my number one question I get asked at wedding consultations! Most couples are planning a wedding for the first time and it gets a bit overwhelming. They want to know if they are doing the wedding planning process correctly and if they are asking the right questions. I always tell my couples to relax and this is why you have wedding vendors! We help keep you on track and make sure everything runs smoothly so you can enjoy your engagement. I always send over guides and some helpful tips so my couples have everything they need."

"Will you help with posing and locations?

The second most popular question has to do with posing and locations. Most couples aren’t professional models and feel a bit awkward in front of the camera and that is completely normal. My job as a wedding photographer is to put you in romantic, joyful, and authentic poses so you will look your best and feel comfortable. I also will find the perfect location with great light so you don’t have to worry about that either!"

"What happens in a worst case scenario?

This question is a pretty common one and one that every couple should ask all of their wedding vendors. Things can happen, equipment can break, and people can get sick- all of this should be discussed in advance and laid out in your contract. As a photographer, I bring along a full set of backup equipment in case something were to break on a wedding day. I also lay out exactly what would happen if I get hospitalized right before a wedding day (knock on wood that this will never happen). My couples need to know what to expect if the worst case scenario were to happen and be able to rest assured that I will still take care of them."

2. If couples are self-conscious about their body, how do you help them in posing so they feel confident and beautiful?

My job as a wedding photographer is not only to photograph and represent a wedding in the best way possible, but to also to photograph and represent my couples in the best way possible. A lot of things that couples may be insecure about don’t really show up on camera. I always let my couples know to relax and enjoy themselves and I’ll make sure they look great! If you are self conscious about a part of your body or have any issues, let your photographer know. When we understand your concerns we are able to make sure we pose you in a way that flatters you and minimizes anything that you may not think is your best feature. We’re not mind readers, so speaking up here will really help us.

3. What is the one piece of advice you would give couples?

One piece of advice that I always give my couples is to really make your wedding your own! This is your day and you will want it to be wedding of your dreams. Don’t feel pressured to make your wedding “Pinterest worthy” or have a traditional wedding if you are more of an offbeat couple or to have an offbeat wedding if you are more of a traditional couple. Making your wedding personal and perfect for you and your fiancé makes your wedding even more special!
